The simple things that make life worth living

I am going to let you in on a little secret.  I did not leave corporate because my business was a smashing success.  In fact, quite the opposite.

The real clencher was when I was hoping so much for my membership to gain enough members to finally replace my corporate salary.  This did not materialize as I wanted it to.

I faced myself fully in that moment, and got really real with the energy that was taking place in this experience.

I wanted freedom so very badly, but I was the one that had to give this to myself.

I knew then that I had to leave corporate, not because I was a smashing success, but because I needed to give myself the space to grow into the person who was.

I have known this fact in theory, but today, out in the garden at 9am on a Thursday morning picking tomatoes, I embodied it.

Human beings have unlimited potential.  It is of the utmost importance to train our minds to believe in all that we are capable of.

But we do have a limited amount of biological energetic output that the current capitalist system extracts to excess.

I had maxed mine to the brink.  9-5, working weekends and evenings in my business, taking my paid vacation days to take on more clients or host events.

When success would start to materialize, my body would literally shut down and say “No”.

How could I possibly do more?

I was already depleted - more clients, more opportunities meant more energetic output from an already depleted cup.

Human beings are not machines.  We need rest, we need support, we need to be able to care for the things in our lives that bring us joy, not as an afterthought, or I will get to it on the weekend, but as an integrated part of our everyday experience.

What are we training ourselves to believe about ourselves and the things we truly care for if all the wonderful things in life have to wait till after the drudgery.  Who taught us this?

One of my greatest accomplishments this summer was keeping a hanging plant on my deck alive.  This is not because I am bad with plants, I am not.

This was because for the last two years, a dry dead hanging plant on my deck was a symptom of something deeper within me.  My inability to maintain the things that bring me joy.

These must be the simple things that make life worth living that we have all heard so much about.  In theory anyways…but what about the embodiment…?

This year, amongst other things, I was able to keep the plant alive.  And this my friends, is a sign of something so beautiful and healing for my soul.

If you're looking for support in your life, my yoga and coaching programs can help.  Make sure to BOOK A CALL.  I would love to hear from you.
