Why is Kundalini Yoga not for everyone?
Kundalini yoga is a potent medicine that promotes deep nervous system healing & emotional release. If you are drawn to the practice and are intentional about why you are practicing then you are likely ready. Kundalini supports ancestral and past life healing and so you also need to be aware that not only are you healing yourself, but your lineage as well. That is not always an easy undertaking.
When you practice Kundalini Yoga your energy can move quickly, blocks in the chakras can be released and new information can come rushing into your psyche that can be overwhelming. With the right preparation and understanding this is usually very healing.
In my teachings, there is one part embodiment, where we move the body and experience, and the other part is theory, where we understand logically what is happening to us from a grounded perspective.
In Kundalini we breathe quickly and move statically. The entire body is treated as a technology to move the inner energy from a place of stagnation to vitality. The breath can sometimes cause discomfort, but over time, with practice, most can adapt.
What is Kundalini?
The earliest known written references to the chakra system appear in ancient yogic texts such as the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, dating back thousands of years. The chakra system describes a series of energetic centers that run along the spine, from the base of the tailbone to the crown of the head.
These centers hold and organize our human experience. You can think of the seven main chakras as layers of stored information about who we are. Each one relates to a specific aspect of our being, including our sense of safety, emotional patterns, personal power, capacity for love, ability to express truth, intuitive perception, and connection to purpose.
Within these centers live our experiences, beliefs both conscious and unconscious, and the energetic imprint of our dharma, our unique path and purpose in this lifetime.
Kundalini is the innate life force energy that moves through this system. When activated and supported, it helps clear stagnation, release stored patterns, and restore flow where energy has become stuck. As this energy rises, it creates the conditions for healing, clarity, and alignment, allowing us to live with great purpose and embodied awareness.
