The Great Pause

ree

This blog is a reflection of my own inner workings and what and how I experience reality.  Please use this narrative if it is helpful for your healing and empowerment journey.

Our reactions are often not a reflection of the current reality but rather a reflection of what is already alive inside us using the situation as an attempt to be seen and heard.

What we find living inside of us are pre-scripted programs from past experiences.  Hard wired into our circuitry to keep us safe.  This is survival programming, that in today’s modern culture manifests in very obscure ways.

I became very curious as to what was alive within me when I heard that my car was going to cost me quite a bit more money than I had expected.

My body quickly responds, my chest tightens and my mind starts to spiral.

But it is in this moment and moments like these, I have recently learned to find the great PAUSE.

This is really the point of doing all the work in the first place so that you can be aware of these moments when they happen, catch them and PAUSE before they cause more damage and suffering.

I was given the visual of floodgates opening.  And this is somewhat paradoxical to healing work where the advice is always to surrender and go with the flow, but in this case, as these flood gates open and the waters of despair begin to wash over you forcing you back into your old patterns, you actually need to find your footing.  Allow the waters to rush over you but not carry you along with them.

As much as you need to be aware of the flood waters, you also need to understand that you have another choice.  The waters will not rush forever, if you can hold out, eventually you will see that there are many different ways to think about the current situation that are far more supportive in creating your reality.

And from my own experience until we face these waters and not get swept away by them, the flood gates will continue to open. And unfortunately even when we do face the waters and refuse to get swept away, it still takes some time for your programming to update. Be gentle and be kind with yourself while you heal.

I spoke earlier about the practices that help us to come into awareness.  These practices can include daily yoga, breath work, mindfulness and journaling.

As you practice more consistently, your awareness will build and your capacity to notice your inner landscape will increase.

The more you practice the more depth your practice will bring. Your awareness will expand off the mat.  And you will begin to form a deep understanding as to what is going on within you and how it is manifesting into the world.

Yoga supports your body on the mat and your mind through an amazing awareness that builds through practice.
